New Proposal to add additional fossil fuel Peakers
Last week, Austin Energy unveiled its final draft, which includes plans for new methane gas-burning power plants. This proposal contradicts the utility’s current commitments to steadily reduce carbon emissions to net zero by 2035 and avoid adding carbon-emitting resources.
By prioritizing fossil fuel investments and stepping back from measurable clean energy targets, the draft represents a significant setback. Full comparison of previous and new proposed plans.
On December 12, the Austin City Council will vote on this proposal, making a critical climate policy decision.
